Bruins sign Gallegos, defender from Ecuador

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Tom White has announced the signing of Claudia Gallegos (Quito, Ecuador) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning next fall.

The daughter of Maria Eugenia Garcia, Claudia attended Unidad Educativa Tomas Moro High School where she played soccer under the guidance of Jorge Puente. During her spell at high school, she was honored with the Athlete of the Year award.

Gallegos has represented her national team at the youth level and also captained the Under 17 squad.

Claudia will be transferring in from the University of Science & Arts in Chickasha, Oklahoma and will compete for a starting spot within the defensive line.

Coach White on Gallegos:

"We are very excited that Claudia will be joining us this fall. Once we got talking, we both knew that this is the program for her. Her love and passion for the game is why I wanted her to be a Bruin. Claudia is a true defender that will put her body on the line. I'm excited to see how she will fit in with her teammates this fall."

Gallegos joins previously announced signees Shadine Rutherford (Kingston, Jamaica), Rendi Takara-Haraki (Mililani, Hawaii), Emma Madej (Omaha, Neb.) Jenn Amaro (Mexico City, Mexico), Ella Pelletier (Papillion, Neb.), Ximena Jauregui (Cancun, Mexico), and Mireia Fernandez (Matadepera, Barcelona) in the Bruins' 2022 recruiting class.

Bellevue wrapped up a successful 2021 campaign by returning to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 2014. Despite an injury-riddled and trying season on the field, the Bruins won their semifinal at the CAC Tournament for the first time to secure a spot in the NAIA Opening Round.
