Rutherford is first announced Women's Soccer signee

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Tom White has announced the signing of Shadine Rutherford (Kingston, Jamaica) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning next fall.

The daughter of Kadian Rutherford, Shadine comes to Bellevue University after playing her club soccer at Reinas Academy under the guidance of Neo Oxford. She served as the team captain for her high school team, Reinas Academy, and Real Mona.

Rutherford attends Meadowbrook High School - where she also competes in track and field - and has represented the Jamaican national team at the U15 and U17 Level. A wing-back at the youth level, Rutherford will come in to immediately compete for a spot on the defensive line.

Coach White on Rutherford:

"We are very excited that Shadine is joining our program. Her personality and work ethic is a perfect match for us. I love how grateful she is to have this opportunity and can't wait for her to meet the Bruin family – I also can't thank Monica Bosiljevac enough for making this happen."

Bellevue wrapped up a successful 2021 campaign by returning to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 2014. Despite an injury-riddled and trying season on the field, the Bruins won their semifinal at the CAC Tournament for the first time to secure a spot in the NAIA Opening Round.
