Nicolarsen signs Omaha Central's Maddy Vasquez for 2019

Bellevue University head women's soccer coach Andy Nicolarsen announced today the first signee in the 2019 recruiting class, Omaha Central High School's Maddy Vasquez. She signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning next fall.

Vasquez, who is the daughter of John and Kari Vasquez, earned honorable mention all-state honors during her junior season in 2018, competing for head coach Jose Vargas at Central HS.

She plays club soccer at the Gretna Soccer Club, also under coach Vargas. Vasquez helped lead her club team to a runner-up finish in the state cup finals this past season.

"I am thrilled to have Maddy join the team next fall," said Nicolarsen. "She is an excellent player and has all the tools to make an impact in the college game. She is tough, technical, has excellent vision and passing ability, is solid in the air and likes to compete. Maddy is most comfortable in the middle of the field and will help fill the holes that we lost to graduation. Above all, Maddy is a great student and teammate."

The Bruins finished the 2018 season with a 10-5-0 overall record, marking BU's 15th-straight season with at least 10 victories. Bellevue lost, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament to Viterbo University.
