Women's Soccer announces fifth 2018 signing

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University women's soccer coach Andy Nicolarsen announced today the signing of Maria Flores Tome (Malaga, Spain/Baker University/Monroe College) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2018.

Flores Tome spent the past two seasons competing for Baker (Kan.) University and the year prior with Monroe (N.Y.) College. She was a major contributor and two-year starter at Baker, helping the Wildcats to a 2016 NAIA National Tournament semifinal appearance.

In addition to her play, Flores Tome is also an excellent student. She graduates from Baker this spring with a double major in physics and mathematics. At Bellevue, she plans to pursue a master's degree in Cybersecurity or Intelligence and Security.

Coach Nicolarsen on Maria:

"Maria is a very good player. She is athletic, composed on the ball, and skilled both technically and tactically. Her primary position is center back but she can play as a holding midfielder or as a target forward just as well. Her versatility and level of play will be a nice addition to the roster."

Flores Tome joins earlier signees Faith Smith (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty University), Sofia Colvin (Edmonds, Wash./Iowa Western CC), Saskia Pepel (Mossingen, Germany/Quenstendt-Gymnasium Mossingen), and Alexis Tolliver (Springfield, Neb./Platteview HS) in the Bruins 2018 recruiting class.

BU finished the 2017 season with an 11-5-0 overall record and a 3-1-0 NSAA mark as they reached the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Tournament semifinals.
