BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team, under head coach Andy Nicolarsen, has announced today the signing of local signee Rylan Mahoney (Platteview HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2016.

Mahoney is the daughter of Jeremy and Candace Mahoney and currently a senior at Platteview High School. While at Platteview, she competes in soccer for Coach Jovan Sudar and also played golf. During her junior year Rylan qualified for state in both soccer and golf, earning first team All-Area and All-State Honorable Mention for her efforts on the soccer field. Rylan played her club soccer for the Omaha Futbol Club under Coach Andy Benkis.

Mahoney is defensive-oriented player who can play in both the midfield as well as on the back line. She is a four year honor roll student and looks to study psychology at Bellevue.

Andy Nicolarsen on Rylan Mahoney:

"Rylan is a solid player that comes to us from very good high school and club coaching which has given her a great work rate and the ability to practice and play at high levels.  We are very happy to have her on the team and look forward to her joining us the fall."

Bellevue posted a 12-4-0 record this past season and finished the year receiving votes in the postseason NAIA Coaches' Poll while reaching the North Star Athletic Association Championship Game in their first year as a member. The Bruins have made five NAIA National Tournament appearances (2010-14), all coming in the last six seasons under the tutelage of Nicolarsen. BU also has three additional Region IV Tournament appearances (2005-07) under Nicolarsen which came prior to the NAIA's post-season format change.
