OMAHA, Neb. - Junior Betsy Fischenich's (Omaha, Neb.) goal 2:22 into overtime lifted the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over the visiting University of Jamestown in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Tranquility Park. With the victory Bellevue improves to 8-1-0 at the season's halfway point while the loss drops Jamestown to 4-3-2.

Senior Yaritza Estrada (Omaha, Neb.) held possession inside the 18-yard box along the touch line and delivered a low-lying pass to Fischenich along the edge of the 6-yard box and Fischenich delivered a one-time touch along the ground to find the back of the net in the 93rd minute for the game-winner.

The opening 15 minutes was marked by physical play and Bellevue dominating possession but the Bruins were only able to manage one shot in that time. Things changed in the 16th minute when Bellevue strung together four shots in a span of just over 90 seconds. Despite a sizeable 10-1 advantage in shots by BU the game was scoreless heading into halftime.

Bellevue was finally able to break through for a goal and a 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute. Sophomore Michelle Dolder (Cali, Colombia) took a pass in the middle of the field and laid off a pass to Estrada. Estrada took a couple of touches into the box and unleashed a powerful shot that snuck under the crossbar and rippled against the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Connie Contreras' 86th minute goal knotted things up for the Jimmies, forcing overtime in a game where until that point that had been thoroughly outplayed. Jamestown won a free kick from 35 yards out and Josselin Cosio delivered a ball into a crowd inside the 18-yard box. The ball was placed towards a mass of heads and Contreras was able to reach it and find the back of the net to force extra time.

Making her first collegiate start freshman Laurence Rodier (Quebec, Canada) made three saves on her way to improving her record to 2-0-0.

For the match, Bellevue held a 20-4 advantage in shots, including a 8-4 edge in shots on goal. The Bruins were out-gained 2-1 on corner kicks by the Jimmies.

Bellevue will next play on Wednesday, Oct. 1 when they travel to McPherson, Kan. for their MCAC-opener against Central Christian College with game time set for 7:00 p.m.
