Wild second-half lifts BU over Morningside, 5-0

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team scored five unanswered goals in the final 22 minutes to record a 5-0 shutout over Morningside College Wednesday night at Tranquility Park in non-conference action.

Bellevue improved to 7-1-0 on the season with the win. Morningside fell to 2-6-1 overall.

After a scoreless first half, the Bruins got two goals each from Mercy Darkoah and Betsy Fischenich and Michelle Dolder added a goal and two assists as BU recorded its fourth shuout of the season. 

The Bruins scored three goals in a three-minute span, including two from Darkoah and one from Dolder to break the scoreless tie and gain a 3-0 advantage. 

Darkoah scored the game's first goal at 68:22 after a shot from Dolder rebounded off the cross bar and Darkoah snuck it in from six yards out. 

Dolder scored her first goal of the season at 71:15 on a pass from Lauren Clark from 25 yards out.  

Seventeen seconds later, Darkoah struck again on a cross from Dolder into an empty net. 

Fischenich made it 4-0 after scoring on a pass from Margie Garcia from 16 yards out in the 80th minute. 

Fischenich scored the game's final goal in the 88th minute with a shot from outside the box at the six-yard line. Aubriana Batchelor was credited with the assist. 

The Bruins outshot the Mustangs, 19-2, including a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal. 

Laurence Rodier picked up her first collegiate win, playing in goal for the game's final 26 minutes. 

The Bruins host the University of Jamestown on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Tranquility Park.

  • Darkoah has had multiple goals in each of last two games and three times this season.
  • Darkoah leads the 2014 Bruins with nine goals.
