KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Avila University's goal in the 62nd minute of action proved to be the difference as they defeated the Bellevue University women's soccer team 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Zarda Athletic Complex.
Avila improved to 10-0-0 on the season while Bellevue fell to 2-4-3.
Caryn Welch scored her 10th goal of the season on pass from Chelsea Tilbury at the 61:32 mark for the lone goal of the match.
Stephanie Gartner recorded her 10th win of the season for the Eagles and stopped all four BU shots on goal. Caitlin Stier notched seven saves in goal for the Bruins.
AU outshot BU 16-6 and also held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
The Bruins will return to action on Friday, Sept. 27 when they play host to St. Ambrose University. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Tranquility Park.
