Bruin women shut out Southwestern Christian, 5-0

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team notched its fourth shutout of the season and remained undefeated in the MCAC with a 5-0 win over Southwestern Christian University Saturday afternoon at Tranquility Park. 

Bellevue improved to 9-3 on the season and 4-0 in the MCAC. The Eagles fell to 5-7-1 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Four different Bruins scored in the victory and Caitlin Stier and Sammy Sinecio combined for the shutout.

For the second-straight game, the Bruins struck quickly, with a goal by Betsy Fischenich just 24 seconds into the contest, giving BU an early 1-0 advantage.  

Jessica Damery made it 2-0 in the 40th minute with a cross from Fischenich into an empty net. 

Bellevue got an own goal following a corner kick by Yaritza Estrada at 48:23 to extend the lead to 3-0. Paige Wischman scored her sixth goal of the season off a corner kick from Estrada at 58:17.

Estrada recorded the final BU goal with a shot at the top of the box at 63:25. Mercy Darkoah was credited with the assist. 

The Bruins will host Waldorf College on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at Tranquility Park.
