MCPHERSON, Kan. -- After playing to a scoreless first half, Betsy Fischenich and Yaritza Estrada scored two goals apiece to lead the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 5-1 win at Central Christian College Saturday afternoon in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Bellevue has now won four of its last five matches to improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the MCAC while Central Christian fell to 1-10 and 0-2 in league action.
BU found the back of the net first, scoring on a shot from the top of the box by Fischenich that beat CCC goalkeeper Amanda Curtis at 47:43.
The Tigers answered just 1:36 later with a goal scored by Krystina Powell on a pass from Haley McMath. Powell is now tied with Abby Schlater of College of Saint Mary for the conference lead with 10 goals this season.
Fischenich netted the game-winner off a pass in front of the net from Kate Petersen in the 72nd minute of play. The freshman from Burke High School leads the team with six goals.
Estrada scored BU's next two goals in a span of 48 seconds to put the Bruins up 4-1. Jessica Damery was credited with the assist on the first goal while Fischenich earned the assist on the second goal.
The Bruins scored their fifth and final goal on a CCC own goal at 86:35.
BU controlled the ball all match, recording 24 shots, including 11 on frame, with seven corner kicks. The Tigers' only shot in the contest was their second half goal.
Caitlin Stier played all 90 minutes in goal and improved to 6-3. Curtis, who leads the MCAC with 100 saves, stopped six shots in the loss for CCC.
The Bruins will begin a five-match homestand next week when they welcome York College to Tranquility Park on Oct. 10 for a 3:00 p.m. kick-off.
