DES MOINES, Iowa -- Freshman Betsy Fischenich scored a pair of goals and assisted on the game-winner in the second overtime, to lead the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over 19th-ranked Robert Morris University Sunday afternoon at the Grand View Classic.
Bellevue, ranked No. 20 nationally, evened its record at 1-1 on the season. The Bruins will head to Olathe, Kan. next Friday-Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 to participate in the MidAmerica Nazarene Invitational.
The Bruins battled back from a 2-0 deficit after the Eagles scored on goals from Tavla Anderson in the 51st minute and Carolynn Welland in the 55th minute.
Fischenich cut the lead to 2-1 at 70:54 by scoring off a pass from Mercy Darkoah. She then tied it up at 2-2 with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, finding the back of the net off an assist from Jenica Bloom.
Bloom scored the game-winner off a pass from Fischenich at the 8:03 mark of the second overtime to give BU the dramatic 3-2 victory.
Caitlin Stier (1-1) picked up the win, recording eight saves in the victory.
