Shuman goal takes Bruins to championship game

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Meredith Shuman scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season with less than 10 minutes remaining in the contest as the Bellevue University women's soccer team advanced to the MCAC Tournament title game with a 1-0 win over York College Friday afternoon at Kasper Soccer Field. 

The top-seeded Bruins will play in the championship game at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday against the winner of Friday's second semifinal between second-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Central Baptist College. 

The 25th-ranked Bruins improved to 13-1-3 on the season. York ends its season with a 7-10-2 overall mark. 

Shuman scored the game's only goal at 80:32 following a corner kick and a pass from Mercy Darkoah.

Yaritza Estrada led Bellevue with four shots, two on goal. Shuman and Jenica Bloom both registered three shots in the victory. 

Caitlin Stier recorded her 11th shutout of the season. Bellevue has not allowed a goal in its last seven matches.
