BU blanks Central Christian, 3-0

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team notched its 10th shutout of the season Wednesday afternoon, topping Central Christian College 3-0 at Tranquility Park in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Bellevue is now 11-1-2 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play while Central Christian fell to 2-14-0 and 0-5-0 in the MCAC.

Meredith Shuman scored the Bruins' first goal of the match when she put away a loose ball in the front of the net following a header by Rebecca Fairfax in the 31st minute.

The Bruins notched their first goal of the second half in the 56th minute of play. Yaritza Estrada took a cross pass from Mercy Darkoah and put a shot on goal from 20 yards out that beat CCC goalkeeper Amanda Curtis.

Shuman netted her second goal of the match just over two minutes later when she scored her seventh goal of the season following a clear attempt by the Tigers from their own box.

Curtis notched 11 saves for the Tigers while Caitlin Stier and Sammy Sinecio combined for the shutout.

BU did not allow CCC to register a shot until the final minute of play and controlled the ball the majority of the match. The Bruins recorded 30 shots, including 14 shots on goal. Alyssa Porter and Darkoah led BU with four shots apiece as 12 different Bruins recorded at least one shot.

The BU women's soccer team will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 when they play their final regular season home match against Central Baptist College. Kick-off is scheduled for noon at Tranquility Park.
