ATHERTON, Calif. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Vanguard University in the Menlo College Invitational.
Vanguard remains unbeaten and improved to 6-0 while Bellevue fell to 5-1 this season.
Lauren Skachenko opened the scoring in the first half on a pass from Rachel Rucireta that beat BU goalkeeper Caitlin Stier in the 16th minute of action.
Vanguard added an insurance goal in the 76th minute on a goal by Amanda Couch.
Skachenko netted her second goal of match at the 79:29 mark to give the Lions the 3-0 win.
The Lions out shot Bellevue by a commanding 27-1 advantage. Jenica Bloom registered Bellevue's one shot.
The Bruins will conclude their California road trip on Monday when they battle NCAA Division III foe Mills College at 1:00 p.m. CST.
