Bruins open season with 2-1 win at Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team opened the 2011 season with a 2-1 win at Concordia (Neb.) University Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Alyssa Porter and Jessica Damery each scored goals while Yaritza Estrada led BU with three shots on goal and added the assist on Damery's game-winning goal.

Bellevue struck first at the 33:28 mark of the first half on an unassisted goal by Alyssa Porter.

The Bruins added an insurance goal in the 69th minute on a goal off a corner kick by Damery.

CU got on the scoreboard in the 86th minute with a penalty kick by Jordan Donohoue.

Goalkeeper Caitlin Stier recorded nine saves to earn the win in her Bruin debut. Ariel Harris took the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing two goals while registering three saves.

The Bulldogs out-shot BU 19-8, including a 13-2 advantage in the second half.

The Bruins return to action next week when they travel to Davenport, Iowa for the Saint Ambrose Invitational, Sept. 3-4.
