Fischenich signs with BU women's soccer
The Bruin women’s soccer program, under head coach Andy Nicolarsen, is pleased to announce the signing of Betsy Fischenich (Omaha, Neb./Burke HS) to a letter of intent to compete for the Bruins in the upcoming 2012 season.  She is the daughter of Troy and Katrina Fischenich and sister to Jacob, Alli and Lucas.

An excellent student, Fischenich is a member of the Honor Roll at Omaha Burke High School where she and her family reside in Omaha, Neb.

Over the past two years Fischenich has played a significant role for the Burke Bulldog soccer program under head coach Steve Moore.  She helped lead the Bulldogs to two state tournament appearances, recording 24 goals and nine assists through her sophomore and junior years combined, making her one of the top goal scorers in Class A high school soccer both years.  Her play earned her all-state honorable mention accolades.

“We are thrilled to have a player of Betsy’s ability commit to our program," said Nicolarsen. "She has an instinct for finding the back of the net and a strong competitive drive as an athlete.  In addition, Betsy is very focused on her academics and an excellent student."

Fischenich played her club soccer for both Toro and currently the Elkhorn soccer clubs under coach Mario Zuniga.  Her Elkhorn United club team reached the semifinals of the state tournament this past season.  She is also a member of the ’94 girls Nebraska ODP soccer program and plans to major in business at Bellevue University.

"Betsy is a great addition to the Bellevue soccer program and will help strengthen our attack in the upcoming 2012 season," added Nicolarsen.

Fischenich joins earlier signee Kate Petersen (Springfield, Neb./Platteview HS) in the 2012 recruiting class.

The 2011 Bruins finished the season with a 14-2-3 overall record, winning the MCAC Tournament title and tying for the MCAC regular season crown with a 5-0-1 league record. Bellevue advanced to the NAIA National Championship for the second-straight season and ended the year with a No. 18 final national ranking.
