Bruins advance to Nationals with shootout win over Carroll

HELENA, Mont. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history with a dramatic shootout victory over top-seeded and 19th-ranked Carroll College Friday afternoon at the Unaffiliated Group Tournament.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through two periods and two overtime periods, setting up the shootout scenario. Bellevue won the shootout, 6-5 after eight shooters for each team.

Ana Price, Olivia Clymens, Morgan Anderson, Amy Stigge, Paige Wicshmann, and Erika Roberts all connected on their shootout penalty kicks.

Price earned the tie, recording five saves while playing all 110 minutes in goal. Price stopped three shootout penalty kicks to help the Bruins advance.

Carroll held a 19-8 advantage in shots, while both teams recorded five shots on goal.

Bellevue (15-4-1) will await word of its opening round opponent when the NAIA National Tournament pairings are announced on Sunday (Nov. 14) evening.
