BU advances to MCAC title game with 1-0 shutout

OMAHA, Neb. -- Freshman Michaela Gelecki scored her first career goal less than two minutes into the game as the Bellevue University women's soccer team collected a 1-0 shutout over Central Christian College in the first semifinal of the 2010 MCAC Women's Soccer Tournament Friday afternoon at Tranquility Park.

The Bruins will play in the championship game on Saturday at 5 p.m. against third-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Eagles defeated second-seeded York College, 1-0, in the second semifinal.

Gelecki scored 1:47 into the game on a shot from the top of the box that went off the left post into the lower left corner of the net past Tiger goalkeeper Leah Stringer.

Freshman Ana Price improved to 12-3 on the season, recording her sixth shutout while notching one save. Stringer fell to 7-9-3 overall while registering five saves in the loss.

The Bruins outshot CCC 19-2 and held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Tigers had a chance to tie the game with three minutes left in the contest, but Stephanie Street's free kick from the top of the box sailed high over the cross bar.
