Roberts, Bloom lead Bruins over OWU

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior Erika Roberts and freshman Jenica Bloom collected two goals apiece as the Bellevue University women's soccer team cruised past Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 5-1,  Saturday afternoon in MCAC action at Tranquility Park.

Bellevue improved to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the MCAC. The Eagles fell to 5-7 and 2-1 in league play.

Roberts, who was one of three Bruins seniors honored before the contest, also added an assist for five total points in the win. Roberts recorded a season-high nine shots with seven on goal.

Sophomore Mollee Collins opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a header in the box off a free kick from junior Meredith Shuman.

Roberts made it 2-0 at 35:07 with a drive down the middle of the field past the attacking Eagle goalkeeper, Kelli Crawford. 

Bloom scored just three minutes later with a shot in the box to extend the lead to 3-0 at halftime. Junior Morgan Anderson was credited with the assist.

Roberts scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 55:11 after stealing the ball from an Eagle defender and blasting the ball past Crawford from 16 yards out.

OWU avoided the shutout with a goal by Eden Brown just 40 seconds later.

Bloom quickly responded 23 seconds later with her second goal on a cross in the box in front of the net from Roberts.

The Bruins will conclude the regular season with a 1 p.m. conference match at Central Christian College next Saturday, Oct. 30.
