Midland edges Bruins, 1-0

FREMONT, Neb. -- Midland's Kayla Smelker converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, giving the Warriors a 1-0 victory over Bellevue University Thursday afternoon at Christensen Field, snapping the Bruins' six-game winning streak.

The loss dropped Bellevue to 9-4 on the season, while Midland improved to 8-2-2 overall.

Bellevue outshot Midland 13-9, but the Warriors held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman Ana Price collected seven saves in the loss.

Senior Erika Roberts recorded three shots, two on goal. Krystyn Yancone, Jenica Bloom, and Amy Stigge each notched one shot on goal in the match.

Price fell to 8-3 on the season, giving up her first goal in five matches.

The Bruins will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Tuesday, Oct. 19 for a 3 p.m. match at Mount Mercy University.
