Women's soccer adds Omaha South's Sinecio
The Bellevue University women’s soccer program, under head coach Andy Nicolarsen, announced today the signing of Maria “Sammy” Sinecio to a letter of intent to compete for the Bruins beginning in the fall of 2011.

Sinecio is the daughter of Oscar and Alejandra Sinecio and sister to Wendy, Sasha and Oscar Jr. She joins the Bruins from Omaha South High School after transferring from Omaha Gross High School after her freshman year.

Sinecio was a three-year starting goal keeper for the Packers and also a three a three-year letterwinner in volleyball and a one-year letterwinner in basketball.  

In her junior season, Sinecio ranked fifth in the state in saves made and during her senior season,d she helped lead the Packers to the best record in school history. Sinecio collected 15 shutouts over her three-year career as South’s starting keeper. She played her club soccer for Viva and club volleyball for Premier and Nebraska Impact.

In addition to her accolades on the field, Sinecio is also an exceptional and very active student. She is a National Honor Society inductee, a recipient of the HACE award given to Latino Scholars of Distinction for carrying a 3.8 GPA, and was a student mentor and member of the Principal Advisory Committee.

“Sammy is our second recruit from Omaha South this year and another great soccer player and great student. We have been watching her play for several years now and came to appreciate her strong leadership skills and athletic abilities. Sammy will push for time in net and will only make us stronger in goal as we move forward as a program,” stated coach Nicolarsen.

Sinecio joins earlier signees Mercy Darkoah (Sheffield, England/Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC), Sarah Huaxwell (Ralston, Neb./Ralston HS), Yaritza Estrada (Omaha, Neb./Omaha South HS).

The 2010 Bruins (15-4-2, 5-0 MCAC) captured the MCAC regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship for the first time in school history after capturing the six-team Unaffiliated Group Tournament title. Bellevue fell in the NAIA Opening Round after tying 12th-ranked Oklahoma City University 0-0, before falling 4-3 in penalty kicks in the shootout.
