ASHLAND, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team claimed the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference - Northstar Athletic Association Tournament championship as Tuesday's final round was canceled due to poor weather conditions at Quarry Oaks Golf Course.

The tournament was shortened to 18 holes because of the inclement weather.

The Bruins won the title with a team total of 313, 47 strokes ahead of second-place Jamestown College. The title gives BU an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championships on May 20-23 in Lincoln, Neb. at the Wilderness Golf Club.

Renee Santoyo was the tournament medalist, finishing with a 5-over par total of 77 in Monday's opening round. Teammates Karissa Moreland and Charlene Dubois finished in a tie for second at 6-over 78. Maria Saavedra and Natalia Soria earned a tie for fourth place at 8-over par (80).

All five of Bellevue's golfers earned first team all-MCAC honors.

The tournament title marks the Bruins' third-straight conference title and second-consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Championships.
