Bruins lead after first day at MCAC Women's Golf Championships

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Led by Maria Saavedra's first round score of 79, the Bellevue University women's golf team is currently leading the 2013 Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Eagle Hills Golf Course.

The Bruins shot a first-round team score of 320 and lead second-place College of St. Mary by 29 strokes. 

Saavedra is in second place behind Danielle Rhodes of Southwestern Christian University, who shot a 3-over par 75. 

Renee Santoyo and Izzy Hernandez are tied for third with opening round scores of 80. Natalia Soria and Christina VonRiesen both shot an 81 and are tied for sixth. 

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday (April 30) with a 9 a.m. start time.
