Martinez earns another NSAA Player of the Week Award

NAIA Release

MADISON, S.D. -- For the second time this season, Bellevue University junior Elexis Martinez (Omaha, Neb.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Martinez, who also won the award two weeks ago, has now earned NSAA Player of the Week accolades seven times in her Bruin career.

Last week she averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds to help the Bruins to a 1-1 finish at the C of O Lady Bobcat Coke Classic.

In a hard-fought 69-60 defeat at the hands of No. 3 College of the Ozarks, Martinez secured her fourth-straight double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds in trying to pull the Bruins out of an early deficit.

She followed up that performance by scoring 22 points with 7-of-14 effort from the field and an 8-of-9 performance from the charity stripe. She pulled down six boards and recorded a steal as Bellevue cruised to a 76-58 win over NAIA Division I John Brown.

For the season, Martinez leads the Bruins in both scoring (16.1 PPG), rebounding (8.9 RPG), and blocked shots (12). She is currently shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 67.3 percent from the free throw line.

Bellevue now stands at 5-3 overall and do not play again until, Monday, Nov. 25 when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for an exhibition tilt against Augustana University at 5:30 p.m.
