Martinez earns honorable mention All-America recognition

NAIA Release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sophomore Elexis Martinez (Omaha, Neb.) was named an Honorable Mention All-American on Thursday when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2018-19 NAIA Women's Basketball Division II All-American teams.

Martinez becomes the second women's basketball player to earn the honor after Caletria Curtis did so a season ago.

A first team all-NSAA selection, Martinez was named the NSAA's player of the week four times on the season. She produced a team-high six double-doubles in leading Bellevue in both scoring (13.6 PPG) and rebounding (6.6 RPG).

For the season Martinez shot 46.7 percent from the floor, 71.4 percent at the free throw line, and totaled 37 blocked shots which ranked 45th nationally. She was one of just three players to appear in all 33 games and one of just two to start every game.

Martinez helped lead the Bruins to a 23-10 season including an 11-3 mark in league play that saw the team garner a share of the NSAA Regular-Season Championship. In postseason play, BU won their first NSAA Tournament Championship and reached the NAIA National Tournament in just the program's third season.
