BELLEVUE, Neb. --  Junior guard Taylor Cormier led four Bruins in double figures with 14 points as the Bellevue University women's basketball team cruised to a 62-43 victory over Mayville State University Saturday afternoon in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Bellevue improved to 14-12 on the season and 7-5 in the NSAA. Mayville dropped to 12-11 overall and 6-7 in league play.

The win avenged a 75-58 loss to the Comets on Jan. 7 in Mayville.

Cormier drained 4-of-7 3 pointers in the contest while adding three rebounds and a pair of assists. Ryleigh McCartney added 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Caletria Curtis and Christen Voyles both chipped in 10 points apiece.

Andi Gayner led the Comets with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. She was the lone Comet in double figures.

The Bruins hit 5-of-6 3-pointers in the first quarter to race out to a 24-9 lead heading into the second frame. Overall, BU was 56.3 percent from the field in the opening quarter, while limiting the Comets to 30 percent shooting.

Bellevue extended the lead to 21 points following a Cassidy Hubbs' jump shot with 7:24 left before halftime. After Karleigh Weber responded with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 18 points, neither team scored for the next three minutes until Gayner's layup pulled MSU to within 16 points at 32-16 with 3:31 left before intermission.

The Comets got as close as 13 points before McCartney's 3-pointer just before halftime gave BU a 37-21 advantage at the break.

Cormier led the Bruins in the first half with nine points on three 3-pointers. McCartney and Hubbs both added six points. Gayner paced the Comets in the opening half with 11 points and six rebounds.

After the Comets got as close as 13 points midway through the third quarter, the Bruins ended the frame on a 6-1 run to take a 47-29 lead into the final quarter.

Two 3-pointers by McCartney sparked a 10-4 Bruin run as BU extended the margin to 23 points at 59-36 with six minutes left in the game.

Gayner responded with four-straight points to get the Comets to within 19, but that was a close as MSU would get as the Bruins cruised to the 62-43 victory.

The Bruins will host Valley City State University on Friday, Feb. 10, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
