Chargers take down Bruins in non-conference action

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Three Bruins scored in double-figures but it wasn't enough as the Bellevue University women's basketball team dropped a 95-51 non-conference decision at Briar Cliff University on Saturday afternoon.

The result saw the Chargers improve to 11-11 overall while BU falls to an identical 11-11 mark.

BU kept play fairly close through the opening quarter, as they trailed by just five points (19-14) with 1:14 to play in the opening period. From there, BCU took command of the game, out-scoring the Bruins 56-23 over the remainder of the first and the next two periods.

Cassidy Hubbs led Bellevue with 12 points and seven rebounds.  She added a pair of blocked shots and a steal on the defensive end. Taylor Cormier and Angeliece Tucker each added 10 points for the Bruins.

Briar Cliff won the game on the defensive end, forcing Bellevue into 29 turnovers and converting that into 47 points on the other end of the floor. The Bruins forced Briar Cliff into 15 turnovers which they converted into 10 points.

Morgan Hansen paced the Chargers with 15 points, one of five Briar Cliff players to reach double-digits in points. Kaylee Blake and Faith Troshynski each added 14 points while Taylor Wagner and Erin Grimshaw added 12 and 11, respectively.

Bellevue returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25 when they face off against Grace University in Omaha, Neb. at 5 p.m. The Bruins defeated Grace, 96-40, in their home-opener back on Nov. 2.
