Nine Bruins named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In an announcement made today by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), nine Bellevue University softball athletes were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the 2022-23 academic year. 

Those named to the prestigious list include Bruins Katie Cunningham, Savannah Gunn, Sydni Haugaard, Lauren Jurek, Madison Machacek, Alyssa Morbach, Amanda Placzek, Alexa Sidel, and Ashley Young

Mid-America Christian (Okla.) led the way with 18 honorees. Iowa Wesleyan and Grand View (Iowa) followed closely behind with 15 each.

The 2023 list features 1,131 student-athletes that achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year at said institution.
