Egan's walk-off homer snaps Midland's 10-game streak

OMAHA, Neb. -- A walk-off two-run homer by Maricela Egan gave the Bellevue University softball team a dramatic 7-5 victory over visiting Midland University Thursday evening in non-conference action at Roy Smith Field. 

The win snapped Midland's 10-game winning streak as BU improved to 11-8 on the season. MU fell to 13-4 overall.  

The Warriors grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first following a throwing error by BU catcher Allison O'Driscoll that allowed Emily Prai to score from third.  

Four out of the first six Bruin batters recorded hits as BU responded in the bottom half of the first, scoring on RBI singles by Ashley Young and Egan to take gain a 2-1 advantage. 

An RBI single to left field by Reese Floro increased the Bruin lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second frame. 

The Warriors took the lead at 4-3 in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on an RBI double to center field by Mia Orduna, an RBI triple to right field by Diana Nisbett, and on a sacrifice fly to left field by Ariyana Crafton. 

A groundout RBI by Nisbett increased the MU lead to 5-3 in the top of the sixth inning.

A run-scoring single to center field by Liana McMurtry and a sacrifice fly to right field by Emily Rochford tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, setting up Egan's two-run homer over the center-field fence to end the contest.  

Egan finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Floro was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  

The Bruins will host the University of Jamestown on Sunday, Mar. 20, in a non-conference noon doubleheader at Roy Smith Field.
