Bruin head softball coach Michala Cimino announced today the addition of 5-3 outfielder Sami Reding (Papillion, Neb./Bellevue East HS) to a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University.

Reding, who will be eligible this spring, played one season of soccer at NCAA Division II Upper Iowa University this past fall. She appeared in 16 games for the Peacocks, scoring two goals with one assist, helping UIU to an 8-9 overall record.

The daughter of Tom and Denise Reding, prepped at Bellevue East High School under coaches Casie Onken and Whitney Wilson. She batted .398 for her career with eight home runs, 31 doubles, four triples, 64 RBIs, and 69 stolen bases. During her senior season, she registered an impressive .443 batting average, with five homers, 10 doubles, two triples, 23 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases.

Reding helped her 2020 Bellevue East squad qualify for the Nebraska State Tournament for the first time in school history.

She was a second-team all-Nebraska and Super State selection and a Class A all-state honoree while being named her team's Defensive MVP and co-Offensive MVP.

A two-sport standout in softball and soccer, Reding broke several school records, including single-season runs (47), career runs (108), single-season hits (47), career hits (132), single-season stolen bases (26), and career stolen bases (69).

She played club softball for the Millard Fury Gold.

An excellent student, Reding was named to her school's Honor Roll 10-of-12 quarters during her high school career.

Bellevue is coming off a strong 2021 season in which they posted a 36-20 overall mark, going 21-7 in league play. Among the season highlights were BU hosting the North Star Athletic Association Tournament and setting a program record with 77 home runs as a team.

The Bruins kick off their 2022 campaign with six games at the Our Lady of the Lake University Classic in San Antonio, Texas from Feb. 3-6.
