Cimino signs Omaha Mercy's Amanda Placzek

Bruin head softball coach Michala Cimino announced her second signee in the 2020-21 class today with the addition of Amanda Placzek (Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS). Placzek will continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue University beginning in the fall of 2020.

Placzek joins earlier signee Sydni Haugaard (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS).

The daughter of Matt and Linda Placzek, Amanda was a four-year letterwinner under Mercy head softball coach Sean Maddigan.

She batted .477 during her senior campaign, with seven home runs, 14 doubles, 28 RBIs and four stolen bases. Placzek's stellar play earned her all-River City Conference honors as well as Class B all-state honorable mention accolades.

Placzek, who was named her team's MVP during her junior and senior seasons, led her squad in doubles, home runs, RBIs and batting average while setting Mercy's career home run record with 16 round-trippers.

A versatile athlete, Placzek was the Class A state champion in powerlifting during her junior season.

Placzek played club softball for the Lady Cougars under coach Carrie Zoucha. She batted .400 with a .510 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and 32 RBIs in the 2019 summer club season.

The Bruins are coming off a season in which they posted a 44-20 overall record and registered a 23-5 mark in conference play. After a second-place finish in the regular-season, Bellevue advanced to the NSAA Championship Series and earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament. For BU, it was their 10th National Tournament Appearance and seventh in just the last 10 seasons.
