Softball announces first 2020 signing

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team, under head coach Michala Cimino, announced today the signing of Sydni Haugaard (Plattsmouth, Neb./Plattsmouth HS) to a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at BU beginning in the fall of 2020.

The daughter of Scott and Treva, Sydni comes to Bellevue from Plattsmouth High School where she was a catcher for Coach Tabitha Foster, earned honorable mention all-conference honors, and served as team captain this past season.

This past season, Haugaard batted .324 with three doubles, three triples, and 16 RBI to go along with a pair of stolen bases. In her high school career, she hit .369 with eight home runs among her 35 extra-base hits, 66 RBI, and stole seven bases.

A dedicated student, Haugaard earned Class B Academic Achievement honors all four years of her high school career and has been a member of the National Honor Society each of the past two years.

In addition to playing for her high school, Haugaard is also plays club softball for Coach Megan McGuire and the Nebraska Quakes McGuire 18U.

The Bruins are coming off a season in which they posted a 44-20 overall record and registered a 23-5 mark in conference play. After a second place finish in the regular-season, Bellevue advanced to the NSAA Championship Series and earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament. For BU, it was their 10th National Tournament Appearance and seventh in just the last 10 seasons.
