NSAA Standings

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team completed the four-game series sweep over Waldorf University Sunday and ran its winning streak to 11 games. BU won by scores of 4-0 and 13-4 in six innings.  

The Bruins improved to 41-16 on the season and 23-5 in the NSAA with the sweep. BU finished second in the NSAA regular-season standings. Waldorf dropped to 14-30 overall and 11-17 in league play. 

Times and pairings for the NSAA Tournament will be released on Monday. The tournament will be hosted by NSAA regular-season champion Valley City State University in Valley City N.D. on May 2-5. 

Game 1: Bellevue 4, Waldorf 0

Senior Erin Sharpe tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout as the Bruins recorded the 4-0 victory in the opener.  

With bases loaded, Ellie Bliemeister was hit by WU starter Karlee Leyvas, giving the Bruins an early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning. 

A three-run triple down the right-field line by Maricela Egan extended the BU lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Sharpe improved to 7-4 on the season, allowing four hits with no walks and one strikeout in seven innings in the circle. 

Leyvas (5-15) was tagged with the loss, scattering seven hits with five walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work. 

Game 2: Bellevue 13, Waldorf 4 (6 innings)

Kelsey Arnold and Kayla Young combined to drive in seven runs and Monique Ashley picked up her team-leading 16th win of the season as BU closed the series with the 13-4 win in six innings in the nightcap. 

Ashlyn Teran, Ashley Young, and Maddie Siedlik each drove in a pair of runs in the victory as BU outhit the Warriors, 12-8, including five extra-base hits. 

The Warriors grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single to center field by Peyton Arenson and a two-run homer to center by Peyton Jurgens.

BU countered in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to left field by Kayla Young and a grand slam to left field by Arnold to give the Bruins a 5-3 advantage. 

A sacrifice fly to center field by Ashley Young and a two-run double down the left-field line by Maddie Siedlik gave BU an 8-3 edge in the bottom of the second. 

A two-run double to center field by Teran made it 10-3 in the bottom of the third frame. 

The Warriors got a run back in the top of the fourth, scoring on an RBI single to right field by Taylor Navratil to make it 10-4. 

Ashley Young's RBI double to left field made it 11-4 in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Kayla Young ended the game with a two-run homer to left field in the bottom of the sixth to make the final, 13-4. 

Ashley (16-7) allowed five hits with one walk and one strikeout in five innings of work.
