OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team used the solid pitching efforts of Brieanna Brock and Erin Sharpe to hand visiting Mount Marty College a pair of losses on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Roy Smith Field. The Bruins won by scores of 2-0 and 3-2.
The two wins avenged a 9-1 loss to the Lancers on Feb. 24 in Chickasha, Okla.
BU improves to 19-11 on the season with the sweep. MMC falls to 12-13 overall.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow (March 28) when they host College of St. Mary in a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Roy Smith Field.
Game 1: Bellevue 2, Mount Marty 0
Brock truck out 14 to lead BU to the 2-0 shutout victory in the opener.
Randi Henry's bloop double between the first and second basemen along the right-field line scored two unearned runs, giving BU a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
That lead held up as Brock improved to 7-1 on the season. She allowed just two hits and no walks in seven innings of work.
Bianca Minor (4-4) suffered the loss, scattering four hits with no walks and four strikeouts in four innings in the circle.
Game 2: Bellevue 3, Mount Marty 2
Sharpe, who had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning, improved to 3-3 on the season, allowing just two hits and one walk with six strikeouts in seven innings in the circle as BU grabbed the nightcap, 3-2.
An RBI infield single by Grace Glotfelty gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third frame.
A single to center field by Kaitlyn Kinman and a fielding error by Paige Kramer allowed Sharpe to score BU's second run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
An RBI double to center field by Ashley Young pushed the Bruin advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
A two-run homer to center field by Amber Writer pulled MMC to within a run at 3-2 in the top of the seventh.
Sharpe induced a groundout and fly out to right field to preserve the one-run victory.
