CLERMONT, Fla. -- Behind 18 runs and 16 hits, the Bellevue University softball team earned a sweep on Wednesday at the PFX Spring Games. Bellevue defeated Fisher College, 12-0 in five innings, before topping #2 Saint Xavier University, 6-3, to wrap up the day.
With the sweep Bellevue improves to 13-7/12-8 on the year. BU plays three games tomorrow against Cardinal Stritch (7 a.m.), Spring Arbor (9:30 a.m.), and Cornerstone (noon).
Game One: Bellevue 12, Fisher 0 (5 Inn.)
Lexi LeCalsey (W, 3-2) was lights out in the circle, allowing just a pair of base-runners and striking out four while firing a one-hit shutout.
Bellevue totaled just seven hits in the game, however, six went for extra bases. The offensive effort was aided by Fisher starter Mikayla Zimmerman issuing nine walks.
Maddie Siedlik went deep twice and Kayla Lehigh added her first collegiate home run in the rout. Siedlik finished with a team season-high six RBI on the game.
Kaitlyn Kinman also contributed a two-hit game including a double while Randi Henry and Alex Tooley also added a double and two RBI apiece.
Kristina Brown had the lone hit of the game for Fisher.
Game Two: Bellevue 6, Saint Xavier 3
Erin Sharpe broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth inning with a grand slam to send Bellevue to a 6-3 win over Saint Xavier.
BU struck first in the top of the third on a run-scoring single from Sayde Woten but left runners on when Sharpe was thrown out at the dish.
A pitcher's duel carried into the fifth inning when SXU broke through for a pair of unearned runs. That lead was short-lived.
Following a single and back-to-back one out doubles in the top half of the sixth the Bruins tied the game and threatened for more with two runners in scoring position. Hannah Carter drew a walk and two batters later Sharpe came up with the bases loaded and two outs to drive her seventh home run of the year out of the park.
Brittany Plimmer got a run back on a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth but it wasn't enough for the Cougars.
Kelli Fisher (W, 8-3) earned the win in the circle with a complete game effort. She scattered three runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out 10.
