Bruins shut out Midland, 6-0, 4-0

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University pitching staff allowed just five hits on the day as the Bruins shut out visiting Midland University, 6-0, 4-0, in non-conference sofball action Sunday afternoon at Hall of Fame Fields.

Bellevue improved to 36-11-1 with the two wins. Midland, which came into the doubleheader with an eight-game winning streak, fell to 24-21 on the season. 

The Bruins, who captured the MCAC regular season title, will host the MCAC Tournament this Thursday-Friday, April 30-May 1, at Hall of Fame Fields. Game times and pairings will be released on Monday.

Game 1: Bellevue 6, Midland 0

The Bruins benefitted from five walks and two Warrior errors to score six runs in the first two innings on just two hits en route to the 6-0 shutout in the opener. 

Bellevue took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Shelby Kindelin scored on a fielding error by Midland third baseman Liz Spooner.

BU scored five runs in the second on a two-run single by Sayde Woten and on a pair of bases-loaded walks and on a fielding error by pitcher Samantha Hislop. 

Kelli Fisher (16-4) registered her fourth shutout on the year, tossing a one-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks in seven innnings in the circle. 

Game 2: Bellevue 4, Midland 0

Kindelin drove in three runs and Taylor Mohler (19-6) tossed a complete-game four hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the Bruins to the 4-0 shutout in the nightcap.  

A two-run single by Kindelin and an RBI double by Sydney Robertson gave the Bruins a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. 

Kindelin drove in another run in the fourth with an RBI single up the middle to push the BU advantage to 4-0. 

Mohler did not allow a runner past second base in the contest. 

The doubleheader marked the final regular season home games for the Bruins' three seniors, Ashley Gigax, Mohler and Kindelin.
