COLUMBUS, Ga. -- The Bellevue University softball team picked up its first victory of the 2015 season Sunday morning, edging Friends University, 2-1, in the Bruins' final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

The Bruins are now 1-4 on the season. Friends fell to 4-8 overall.

An RBI single to center field by Khadijah Bland broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The Bruins quickly responded in the bottom of the sixth when Shelby Kindelin drew a walk to lead off the inning and was driven in by Ashley Gigax's double to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Alex Tooley's single to center field drove in Gigax to give BU a 2-1 advantage.

Friends threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but Kelli Fisher struck out Courtney Kifer to end the game, giving the Bruins their first win of the season, 2-1.

Fisher (1-1) picked up the complete-game win, scattering four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work.

The Bruins will travel to Clermont, Fla. to participate in the National Training Center Spring Games on March 3-6.
