Five-run third inning dooms Bruins; OCU tops BU 9-0

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fourth-ranked Oklahoma City University outhit the Bruins 10-2 and scored  five runs in the third inning en route to a 9-0 win, in six innings, as the Stars ended the Bellevue University softball season Wednesday night in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Oklahoma City (50-13) advances to the NAIA Softball National Championship final site on May 24-30 in Columbus, Ga., while Bellevue ends its season with a 42-11 record.

Drew Wright registered a two-run double and Jamie Rateliff blasted a three-run home run to give OCU a 5-0 lead in third inning.

Rateliff notched her fourth RBI of the game on a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning.

The Stars added to their lead in the sixth scoring on a bases-loaded wild pitch and a hit batsmen and an RBI fielder's choice by Rateliff to take a 9-0 lead.

After pitching all 13 innings in the first championship game, Amanda Neumann (16-4) allowed five runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Danielle Fox tossed a complete game win with eight strikeouts as she improved to 1-1 on the season.
