Neumann leads BU to sweep over York on Senior Day

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Amanda Neumann laced three home runs in the opener to highlight the Bellevue University softball team's 8-0, 8-0 doubleheader sweep over York College Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Hall of Fame Fields.  

The Bruins improved to 33-8 on the season and 13-2 in the MCAC. York dropped to 22-23 overall and 6-11 in league play. 

Bellevue will travel to Storm Lake, Iowa on Sunday (April 27) for a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader at NCAA Division II Buena Vista University. 

Game 1: Bellevue 8, York 0 (5 innings)

Neumann blasted three home runs and tossed a one-hitter to lead the Bruins to the 8-0 win in five innings in the opener. As a team, Bellevue registered five home runs in the game. 

Neumann finished 3-for-3 with three home runs and four RBIs. Shelby Kindelin and Kelsie Bridgeford also collected home runs in the win. 

The Bruins opened the game with solo home runs by Kindelin and Neumann, giving BU an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  

An RBI single by Taylor Anderson increased the lead to 3-0 in the second frame. 

Neumann led off the third inning with her second solo homer of the game to push the lead to 4-0.

Neumann's third home run was a two-run shot over the center field fence in the bottom of the fifth.Bridgeford followed with a solo homer to extend the lead to 7-0. 

Bellevue ended the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by senior Katie Tew to left field which pushed the final score to 8-0.

Neumann improved to 11-3 in the circle, allowing just one hit, while striking out six and walking none in five innings of work. 

Game 2: Bellevue 8, York 0 (6 innings)

Kristin Burhenne and Bridgeford drove in two runs apiece and Kindelin tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Bruins to the 6-0 win in six innings in the nightcap. 

A sacrific fly to center field by Katie Malloy gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. 

A two-run single up the middle by Bridgeford and a bases-loaded walk to Anderson moved the BU lead to 4-0 in the third. 

A two-run homer by Burhenne gave BU a 6-0 advantage in the fifth. 

A pair of one-run doubles by Kim Wees and Tew ended the game at 8-0 in the sixth. 

Neumann drew four walks in the second game.

Kindelin (12-2) picked up her 12th win of the season, scattering three hits with three strikeouts and one walk in six innings in the circle. 

The doubleheader marked the final home games for the Bruins three seniors: Neumann, Tew, and Wees.
