Bruins sweep York; Kindelin throws perfect game

YORK, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team posted a doubleheader sweep at York College on Thursday at Miller Park in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Bruins won the opener 9-0, in six innings, before posting a 4-0 victory in the series finale.

Bellevue improved to 31-8 overall and 11-2 in the MCAC while the Panthers fell to 22-19 and 6-7 in league action.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday, April 27, for a 12 p.m. doubleheader in Bellevue at Hall of Fame Fields. The Bruins' three seniors (Amanda Neumann, Katie Tew and Kim Wees) will be honored between the games.

Game 1: Bellevue 9, York 0 (6 innings)

Neumann tossed a one-hitter while driving in four runs to lead the Bruins to the 9-0 win in six innings in the opener. 

The Bruins broke out of the gate quickly, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning on a three-run homer by Neumann and a two-run blast over the left field fence by Tew. 

A two-run double to left-center field by Taylor Anderson pushed the BU lead to 7-0 in the top of the fifth frame. 

After Shelby Kindelin led off the sixth inning with a double to left-center field, Neumann drove in her fourth run of the game with a single up the middle to extend the lead to 8-0. Bellevue scored its ninth run on a York fielding error. 

Neumann (10-3) allowed just one hit while striking out 13 and walking two in six innings of work. 

Game 2: Bellevue 4, York 0

Led by Kindelin's perfect game, the Bruins cruised to a 4-0 win in the finale. BU recorded seven hits in the win.

Anderson recorded a two-run single in the sixth and Kelsie Bridgeford added a double that plated a pair of runs in seventh to propel the Bruins.

Kindelin improved to 11-2 on the year and recorded 15 strikeouts in the complete game. The 15 strikeouts also mark a career-high for the sophomore from Plattsmouth, Neb.
