Bruins dominate Concordia (Neb.), 19-2, 12-0

SEWARD, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team posted a pair of convincing wins at Concordia (Neb.) University Tuesday night at Plum Creek Park. The Bruins took the opener 19-2 before winning the nightcap, 12-0, both in five innings.

Amanda Neumann went 6-for-7 with eight RBIs in the doubleheader. She also set the single-season school record with 22 doubles, surpassing Kendra Gansz' 21 doubles in the 2010 season.

The Bruins improved to 26-7 overall while Concordia slipped to 9-18 on the year.

Bellevue will return to conference action on Friday, April 19 when they visit College of Saint Mary (9-14, 6-5 MCAC) for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.

Game 1: Bellevue 19, Concordia (Neb.) 2 (5 innings)

Bellevue tied a season-high with 19 runs and recorded 17 hits as they posted a convincing 19-2 win the opener.

The Bruins scored 11 runs on six hits and took advantage of three Bulldog errors to take a commanding 11-0 lead in the first inning. BU scored all of its runs with two outs in the frame that was highlighted by Neumann's grand slam.

BU added four more runs in the third to extend its lead to 15-0. Kelsie Bridgeford, Katie Malloy, Katie Tew and Taylor Anderson each tallied RBIs in the inning.

CU got on the scoreboard with a two-out two-run single by Angela Harstad in the bottom half of the third.

The Bruins added another four runs in the top of fourth. Bridgeford notched a bases-loaded walk before Alyssa Matoba scored on a wild pitch. Malloy and Kaylea Kult both registered RBIs to give BU the 19-2 win.

Taylor Mohler improved to 9-3, tossing a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Julia Tyree (4-10) took the loss for the Bulldogs, allowing 11 runs on six hits in just one inning.

Game 2: Bellevue 12, Concordia (Neb.) 0 (5 innings)

BU scored in four of the five innings, highlighted by a seven-run second inning, en route to a 12-0 win in the finale.

Bridgeford gave the Bruins an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the first.

The Bruins took control of the second game, scoring seven runs on five hits in the second to take an 8-0 advantage. Tew scored on Matoba's infield single, Neumann recorded an RBI single and Shelby Kindelin stole home plate before Malloy blasted a grand slam in the frame.

Augusta Ratliff tallied a solo home run and Neumann hit a run-scoring double in the third to give BU a 10-run lead.

Neumann hit her second home run of the day, a two-run blast in the fifth, to lift the Bruins to the 12-0 win.

Kindelin (9-2) threw a four-hit shut out with four strikeouts in the win.

Amanda Beeson suffered the loss for CU and fell to 5-8 this year.
