Bruins pick up three wins at MCAC Crossover

McPHERSON, Kan. -- Led by Shelby Kindelin, the Bellevue University softball team won three games Friday at the MCAC Crossover Tournament, running its winning streak to 15 games. The Bruins shut out Central Christian, 9-0 in the opener, defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 9-3 in its second game before posting a 7-1 win in the finale over Southwestern Christian. 

Kindelin tossed a one-hitter in the opener and went 7-for-11 in the three games with a double, two home runs, three RBIs and five runs scored. 

The Bruins will conclude the tournament on Saturday (April 6) with a 10 a.m. game against Haskell Indian Nations University and a 12:30 p.m. contest with No. 23 Central Baptist College. 

Bellevue 9, Central Christian 0 (5 innings)
Behind Kindelin's one-hitter, the Bruins shut out Central Christian in the opening game, 9-0. 

Katie Malloy went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored to lead the Bruin offense. Katie Tew also drove in two runs and Alyssa Matoba went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. 

A two-run single by Tew highlighted a three-run first inning for the Bruins. Malloy's two-run single increased the BU lead to 5-0 in the top of the second. A bases-loaded groundout RBI by Matoba moved the Bruin advantage to 6-0 in the third frame. 

The Bruins made it 7-0 in the fourth on an RBI double by Kristin Burhenne.

Bellevue added a pair of runs in the fifth on Taylor Anderson's RBI single and a fielding error by the Tigers to make the final, 9-0.

Kindelin finished with a season-high 11 strikeouts, while allowing just one walk in five innings of work. 

Bellevue 9, Oklahoma Wesleyan 3
Bellevue blasted a season-high five home runs, including two by Kindelin, en route to the 9-3 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan. 

Kindelin finished 3-for-3 with two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored. 

The Bruins used solo homers by Kindelin and Kelsie Bridgeford to grab an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Eagles answered in the bottom half of the first, scoring a run on a fielding error by Kindelin, to slice the BU lead to 2-1. 

Back-to-back solo homers by Augusta Ratliff and Kindelin in the top of the second pushed the lead to 4-1. 

A two-run bomb by Tew increased the BU advantage to 6-1 in the third frame. 

The Eagles cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single to center field by Candace Perkins.

A two-run double by Amanda Neumann sparked a three-run sixth inning as BU extended the lead to 9-3 in the top of the sixth. 

Neumann got the win, improving to 8-1 on the season, scattering six hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Kindelin collected three hits as the Bruins closed out the day with a 7-1 win over Southwestern Christian.

Kindelin went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored.

An RBI single by Malloy and a throwing error gave BU a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The Bruins added three runs on four hits and an Eagle error in the top of the fifth to extend the margin to 5-0.

An RBI double by Kindelin highlighted a two-run sixth inning as BU gained a 7-0 advantage.

SCU avoided the shutout with an RBI double by Kayla Millette in the bottom of the seventh to make the final, 7-1.

Taylor Mohler improved to 7-3 on the season, scattering four hits with 13 strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.
