BU falls to Point Park, Cornerstone in NTC Spring Games finale

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Bellevue University softball team concluded the National Training Center Spring Games with a pair of losses. The Bruins dropped the opener 2-1 to Point Park University before being blanked 2-0 to Cornerstone University in the finale. 

Bellevue (8-6) will host Grand View University on Tuesday, March 12 in its home opener. The doubleheader begins at 3:00 p.m. at Hall of Fame Fields.

Point Park 2, Bellevue 1

Point Park (5-2) edged the Bruins 2-1 in the opener.

Sara Guffey's single in the second inning gave the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.

The Bruins responded in the bottom half of the second inning with an RBI single by Katie Malloy to tie the game at 1-1.

PPU regained the lead in the fourth with a two-out bases loaded walk to Destiny James that proved to be the difference as the Pioneers posted the 2-1 win.

Amanda Neumann suffered the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season. The senior struck out seven batters while allowing six hits and two runs.

Cornerstone 2, Bellevue 0

The Bruins were held to a season-low two hits as Cornerstone (6-1) won the finale 2-0.

The Golden Eagles led the bottom of the fourth off with a double and scored the first run of the game on Harlie Sherman's RBI single.

CU added an insurance run in the sixth on a double by Jenna Weightman.

Heidi Warmelink earned the complete game win for CU, striking out seven as she improved to 3-1 on the season.

Taylor Mohler (4-3) took the loss for BU allowing two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
