Softball wins 13th-straight, drop CSM, 9-1, 8-0

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team extended its winning streak to 13 games as they defeated College of Saint Mary 9-1 and 8-0 Wednesday evening in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Hall of Fame Fields.

Bellevue is now 40-14 and 11-1 in the MCAC while College of Saint Mary fell to 9-30 overall and 4-9 in league play. The Bruins have now won 15-straight games against the Flames.

CSM was plagued by seven errors and BU recorded 17 strikeouts in the doubleheader.

The Bruins will wrap-up the regular season on Saturday, April 28 with a doubleheader at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Game 1: Bellevue 9, College of Saint Mary 1 (6 innings)
Five different Bruins drove in runs and BU took advantage of four CSM fielding errors cruising to the 9-1 victory in six innings in the opener.

The Flames scored off a Bruin fielding error in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. 

Back-to-back homers by Brooke Ellis and Katie Malloy highlighted a four-run second inning for BU, giving the Bruins a 4-1 advantage.

The Bruins added two runs in the third on RBI singles by Kathryn Wardian and Kristin Burhenne to push the lead to 6-1.

An RBI single by Amanda Neumann and two CSM fielding errors plated three BU runs, ending the game at 9-1 in the sixth frame.

Shelby Kindelin (9-4) earned the win, allowing three hits and one unearned run, while striking out nine in six innings of work. Jessika Reyes (5-11) took the loss, allowing nine runs on seven hits.

Game 2: Bellevue 8, College of Saint Mary 0 (five innings)
Malloy's fifth inning grand slam fueled BU's 8-0 win in the nightcap.

Ellis opened the scoring with a RBI single and Kelsie Bridgeford followed with double to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

The Bruins added a run in the third with a sacrifice bunt by Bridgeford that plated Kim Wees.

Malloy's second home run of the day and a fielding error helped the Bruins win 8-0 in five innings.

Taylor Mohler (18-5) struck out eight batters and allowed just four hits. Audree Uhlarik fell to 3-9, giving up 11 hits, two walks and eight runs.
