Cimino picks up No. 100 in sweep over Tigers

BELLEVUE, Neb. --  Bellevue University head softball coach Michala Cimino picked her 100th career victory as the Bruins swept visiting Central Christian College, 10-0 and 11-0, Saturday at Hall of Fame Fields. Both games ended in five innings. 

Cimino, who is in her third season at the helm of the Bruin softball program, sports a 100-50 career ledger.

Bellevue has now won nine-straight games, improving to 36-14 overall and 7-1 in the MCAC. Central Christian fell to 8-36 on the season and 6-6 in league play.

The Bruins return to conference action on Tuesday, April 24, when they head to York, Neb. for a 3 p.m. conference doubleheader at York College.

Game 1: Bellevue 10, Central Christian 0 (5 innings)
Bellevue exploded for nine runs in the second inning sparked by a grand slam from Kelsie Bridgeford and a two-run homer by Katie Malloy as 14 Bruins came to the plate.

A bases-loaded walk extended the lead to 10-0 in the fourth frame.

Bridgeford finished 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs to pace the Bruins at the plate.

Shelby Kindelin (8-4) picked up the win, tossing a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk in five innnings, while getting her third shutout of the season.

Game 2: Bellevue 11, Central Christian 0 (5 innings)
Brooke Ellis and Kim Wees both went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the BU offense to the 11-0 shutout in the nightcap. Bridgeford went 3-for-3 with three doubles and an RBI. 

Taylor Mohler (16-5) earned the win, allowing just two hits while striking out 10 Tiger batters in five innings of work to collect her fourth shutout of the season. 

 The Bruins grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, paced by doubles from Bridgeford and Malloy and an RBI single by Ellis. 

An RBI double by Bridgeford and a two-run homer by Ellis pushed the BU advantage to 5-0 in the bottom of the third. 

A three-run homer by Wees highlighted a six-run Bruin fourth as Bellevue extended the margin to 11-0.
