Neumann leads Bruins to sweep at Peru State

PERU, Neb. -- Amanda Neumann went 5-for-8 with four doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored while throwing a complete game four-hitter in the opener to lead the Bellevue University softball team to a 7-0 and 8-0 doubleheader sweep against former conference foe Peru State College Wednesday evening at the Centennial Complex.

With the win, Bellevue improved to 32-14 on the season while Peru State fell to 25-21 overall.

The Bruins moved to 38-12 all-time versus PSC and have now won 12-straight against the Bobcats including 17 of the last 18 meetings.

BU outhit the Bobcats 21-6 en route to its seventh and eighth shut outs of the season.

The Bruins will return to conference action on Friday, April 20 when they welcome Southwestern Christian University to Hall of Fame Fields for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader. Kathryn Wardian and Brooke Ellis, BU's two seniors, will be honored between games.

Game 1: Bellevue 7, Peru State 0

Neumann led the Bruins in the opener tossing a complete game four-hitter while going 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs to propel the Bruins to a 7-0 win.

Kelsie Bridgeford put the Bruins on top in the second inning with a solo home run to center field. This marked her sixth home run of the season.

The Bruins expanded their lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits. Shelby Kindelin tallied an RBI single to center field that scored Augusta Ratliff before Neumann blasted a two-run double to give BU a 4-0 lead.

BU added three runs to the seventh inning highlighted by two-out RBIs from Ellis, Neumann and Bridgeford.

Neumann improved to 11-6 on the season with the complete game four-hitter. Neumann, this week's MCAC Player of the Week, struck out three batters without allowing a walk. Danae Disney (4-2) suffered the loss for the Bobcats, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Game 2: Bellevue 8, Peru State 0

Behind Taylor Mohler's two-hitter and 10-strikeout performance, the Bruins posted an 8-0 win in the nightcap.

Neumann opened the scoring in the third inning with her third double of the day that scored Luci Mendoza from second base before Ellis followed with her eighth home run of the season to give BU a 3-0 lead.

The Bruins added four runs in the top of the fifth and took advantage of two errors in the inning to take a 7-0 edge. Neumann recorded an RBI single that scored Kindelin. Kim Wees came home from third after Ellis reached on an error by the Bobcats' shortstop before Katie Malloy and Wardian notched back-to-back RBI singles.   

BU scored its final run of the game in the seventh inning on a dropped fly out to PSC's second baseman that allowed Neumann to score.

Mohler (14-5) tallied her 15th complete game of the season allowing just two hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts. Lyndsay Drumm (7-7) took the loss for PSC, surrendering six runs in 4.1 innings of work.
