BU sweeps Concordia, 5-2 and 5-0

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team collected a doubleheader sweep over Concordia (Neb.) University Tuesday night at Hall of Fame Fields, winning 5-2 and 5-0, in non-conference action. 

With the two wins, Bellevue improved to 23-13 on the season. Concordia fell to 10-12 overall. 

The Bruins will travel to Ottawa, Kan. on Thursday, April 5 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Ottawa University. 

Game 1: Bellevue 5, Concordia 2
Shelby Kindelin led the Bruins at the plate and in the circle as the Bruins recorded a 5-2 win in the opener. Kindelin finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. She also recorded the win, improving to 4-4 on the season, scattering seven hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

The Bruins got on the board in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly to right field by Amanda Neumann that plated Shelby Kindelin, who led off the inning with a double and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Wees

Concordia tied it a 1-1 in the top of the second after Amanda Baldwin led off with a triple to right field and was driven in by a ground out RBI by Amanda Beeson. 

A solo homer by Brooke Ellis in the bottom of the fourth gave Bellevue a 2-1 advantage. 

The Bruins added three runs in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI single to center field by Melissa Ackley and an RBI double to center by Kindelin, giving BU a 5-1 advantage.  

Concordia got one run back in the top of the sixth on another ground out RBI by Beeson.

Game 2: Bellevue 5, Concordia 0
Amanda Neumann blasted two homers and drove in four runs to lead the Bruins to the 5-0 win in the nightcap. Taylor Mohler (11-4) recorded the shutout, tossing a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work. 

A two-run homer by Neumann gave the Bruins an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

An RBI triple by Katie Tew extended the BU margin to 3-0 in the second.

Neumann's second two-run homer made the score 5-0 in the fifth, to compete the game's scoring.
