SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- After being shut out in the opener, 1-0, to the host school Morningside College, the Bellevue University softball team responded with a 16-1 win over Dakota State in the final game of the Morningside Softball Invitational. 

Bellevue moves to 21-13 on the season with the split.

An  RBI triple by Kirsten Dargy was all the offense Morningside needed as the Mustangs squeaked out a 1-0 win in the Bruins' opener.

Taylor Mohler (9-4) suffered the loss, despite giving up just four hits with no walks, while fanning three batters. 

Jordan Johnson got the win, scattering four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Bruins pounded out a season-high 21 hits en route to the 16-1 victory over Dakota State in five innings. 

Kathryn Wardian went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a home run to lead the Bruins at the plate. 

Bellevue brought 13 batters to the plate in a 10-run first inning. 

Mohler got the win, improving to 10-4 on the season, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out six batters in five innings of work.

The Bruins will host Concordia (Neb.) University on Tuesday, April 3 in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Hall of Fame Fields. The games will also serve as a fundraiser in the "Beat Cancer with a Bat" initiative. All gate receipts and donations will go directly to the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
