Bruins slug past Northwestern, 7-2, 15-3

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The Bellevue University softball team slugged out 24 total hits, including seven home runs, while sweeping Northwestern College, 7-2 and 15-3 (5 innings) Tuesday night in non-conference softball action at MOC-Floyd Valley High School field.

Bellevue improved to 15-10 on the season with the two wins. Northwestern fell to 8-6 overall.

Four Bruins collected two hits in the opener and Kim Wees drove in three runs with her first homer of the season as BU cruised to the 7-2 win. 

Wees' homer ignited the Bruins' five-run fifth inning as Bellevue overcame a 2-1 deficit. 

Shelby Kindelin (3-4) replaced Amanda Neumann on the mound, earning the win in game one, striking out seven batters while not allowing a hit in 4.2 innings of work. 

Game 2: Bellevue 15, Northwestern 3 (5 innings)
The Bruins scored at least three runs in four separate innings and blasted five home runs to cruise to the 15-3 win in five innings in the nightcap. 

Brooke Ellis went 2-for-2 with two three-run homers and six RBIs and Kathryn Wardian finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, including a grand slam, to pace the Bruins' offensive onslaught. 

Taylor Mohler got the win, improving to 6-3 on the season, scattering three hits and striking out four batters in five innings in the circle.

The Bruins will travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, March 24, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Grand View University.
