BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team used a walk-off homer by Kelsie Bridgeford in the opener to squeak out a 1-0 win, then pounded out 12 hits to complete the sweep over Benedictine College with a 9-1 run-rule win in five innings in the nightcap.
The Bruins improved to 13-10 on the season with the sweep. Benedictine dropped to 7-12 overall.
The Bruins will head to Orange City, Iowa on Tuesday (March 20) for a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Northwestern (Iowa) College.

The Bruins used a walk-off homer by freshman Kelsie Bridgeford to record a 1-0 victory in the opener. Shelby Kindelin and Amanda Neumann combined for the five-hit shutout with Neumann earning the win, replacing Kindelin for the final two innings.
Kindelin recorded six strikeouts while Neumann fanned three batters and did not allow a hit.

The bats came alive for the Bruins in the nightcap as Bellevue collected 12 hits to back the one-hit pitching performance of freshman Taylor Mohler, as BU cruised to the 9-1 victory in five innings.
The Bruins took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to center field by Kathryn Wardian and a grand slam by Kindelin.
An RBI double by Bridgeford and a one-run single by Wardian increased the lead to 7-0 in the third.
The Ravens avoided the shutout with an RBI double by Megan Eldrege in top of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-1.
Bellevue ended the game in the fifth with a two-run homer by Wardian over the center field fence.
Mohler improved to 5-3 on the season, recording 11 strikeouts in the win.
Wardian finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a home run. Kindelin went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and the grand slam.
